A Quick Rundown Of Day One At LDI

Spending a few hours on the exhibit hall floor while it was being set up on Thursday, along with sitting in on a series of sessions took up much of the first day at the Las Vegas Convention Center Thursday.

A Quick Rundown Of Day One At LDI
Having learned a little bit about what ArKaos MediaMaster Pro can do from Tim Ottley, Lighting Director at Asbury United Methodist Church in Tulsa, Okla., I took the time to sit in a session led by Benjamin Bauwens to learn the basics behind environmental projection using ArKaos Thursday at LDI. This is a glimpse of the final result.

On Thursday, a few hours were spent a number of hours swinging through the exhibitiow floor that was being set up prior to it opening Friday morning at the Las Vegas Convention Center for LDI.

That included seeing a few familiar faces during setup, including Steven Hall of ModScenes and David McCauley of CSD Group, prior to taking some time to sit in about a half-dozen sessions, most notably the “Truss Unraveled - Technical Truss Training” session at the beginning of the day and “Design, Program and Perform with ArKaos Video Technologies,” toward the end of the afternoon’s slate of sessions.

One of the more eye catching moments while walking around the show floor was the setup at the X-Laser booth, which was in the midst of programming its hazer for Friday’s opening. In addition, I caught ROE Visual staff working in their booth building one of their LED walls adding in one of the panels.

During setup on Thursday of the exhibition hall booths that are to open on Friday at LDI, X-Laser works on their system, which included a hazer. Or the German Light Products booth, which was pulling in multiple lighting units into position for their a section on their show floor.

Among the various sessions I sat in on, the most interesting was seeing the Prolyte Group’s Verto truss up close, which was demoed during a short break during the four-hour session on trussing. Later in the morning, I sat in a session about programming with a six-person panel, including moderator Vickie Claiborne of PRG Las Vegas; and speakers Brad Schiller of Martin; Bobby Harrell, product specialist for Strand Lighting; Marc Lorenz of CUE Design; Troy Eckerman, of Chroma Designs, Inc.; and Josh Selander of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. The session where I found myself impressed with myself was the final session, learning about the ArKaos MediaMaster Pro system. Only familiar about the software through its use by Asbury United Methodist Church’s Lighting Designer Tim Ottley, I sat in completely green with the software. Within a little more than an hour, I had learned how to use the software to implement basic environmental projection.
