HAVING SERVED THE tech arts community for 10 years, Worship Facilities Magazine decided it was time to try what we have not seen done before — to measure the current state and health of the church tech director in churches today.

Access The State of the Church Tech Director Report here.

When WFM began to create resources for this emerging tech arts ministry, all the talk then was about the gear.

The role has since then evolved over time, however, to become a critical ministry of the church. So we decided to set out and measure, compare and dissect the results of our first comprehensive survey of “The State of the Church Tech Director.”

It is WFM’s hope that this survey will create dialogue within the ranks of the tech arts community and with church leadership about the evolution of this role. Upon seeing how the data garnered by “The State of the Church Tech Director” survey created discussion, reflection, or evaluation during WFX in Louisville, particularly during the Tech Leaders Retreat preconference session, we consider it a success. But we hope that such a discussion, reflection and evaluation will continue in the coming weeks and months, based off the report’s results.

It should not be OK for us to be focused only on the stage. Why? Because standing behind or alongside that stage are people, individuals devoted to making His message heard through you and with you. I urge you to turn around and minister to those who support you. As a body, as a community, we cannot and should not allow a culture of “the show must go on” if it means the spiritual health of those working hard to make it happen.
