The FCC, Wireless Microphones and LED Walls

How would you feel, though, if just a few years down the road, you were forced to turn an LED wall off, as has been mandated with wireless mics in the past, because it too was not compliant with FCC rulings?

While these flight cases are holding LED video wall panels, recognize that not all LED video wall panels unfortunately are the same when it comes to being in line with FCC regulations. Avoid opting to save a few dollars by purchasing an LED video wall that might be at risk of being forced to be turned off for noncompliance.

How many of you have had to spend a significant sum of money on replacing wireless microphones that were working perfectly well, but have had to replace them because of the reallocation of portions of the 600 MHz band to mobile broadband services?

Unfortunately, some manufacturers or importers are selling products that are illegal to be sold in this country.

Pretty much all of us have, because over the last decade or so, a bunch of the frequency spectrum has been sold off for other uses.

So let’s shift gears for just a minute, and talk about spending money.

Many of you are looking to update the technology in your sanctuary, ranging from new LED lights, laser projectors or LED walls, and other fancy new gear.

Here in lies the big challenge, in that the FCC has strict regulations for equipment verification, and marking that it is sold here in United States.

For many churches and businesses across the country, the result is them opting to be compliant with the FCC, by turning off their old wireless microphones, and then buying new ones. Others may instead decide to transition to cabled microphones, recognizing that they may be unable to afford new wireless microphones at the moment.

Then let’s say your church is about to spend $50,000 to $100,000 on a new LED wall. How would you feel about it, though, if just a few years down the road, you were forced to turn the LED wall off, because it too was not compliant with FCC rulings?

Here’s the unfortunate part about it, is that so many people who are so called manufacturers or importers, have equipment like this and don’t know anything about the rules and regulations. In the end, they are selling products that are in fact illegal to be sold in this country.

So who loses?

Everybody.

While the equipment might end up being cheaper on the shelf, because it was built to a lower standard, it just doesn’t make sense to spend money today on something that you may soon not be able to use legally.
